Modernized the warmth out, me thinketh.

Everything was wonderful as to the delivery and the book as a product, but the translation took beautiful old English (middle English?), and translated it to modern speak. Julian of Norwich spoke of God as being "homely" as in family, kin, a loved one from home and reduced it to "familiar" or "friendly". It also had, perhaps a feminist angle as "men" was translated as "people". In doing so I believe the translators insistence that she was faithful to the intent was truthful as far as it goes, but it lost most of the charm, and warmth that a more readable translation, while keeping with as much of the original language would permit, would have conveyed.

Difficult at times, but very worth the effort.

This is a beautiful translation, still with much of the original 14th C. English usage left unspoiled. You get a good sense of the times and the place in which Dame Julian wrote these "shewings", as she calls them. The notes are easy to access if you are reading this on Kindle, as I did. The message of this holy anchoress, that "All will be well", is one which we certainly need to hear today.
There are parts, especially when she is describing the Crucifixion in the beginning chapters, that may be difficult because of their graphic details. However, I found her understanding of the nature of Salvation, and the goodness of God towards His/Her creation to be profoundly comforting and reassuring. This is a must for anyone interested in deep spirituality, or in the Mystics of the 13th-14th century.

What a woman!

A wonderful spiritual journey. Julian of Norwich was devoted to prayer and personal mortification, but did so with deep joy. She did not see her way of living as a sacrifice but a way of complete giving of herself to God. It may be worded in language not familiar to us in the world of today, but it is an incredible work of devotion and love of one who wants to give all for the love she experiences in her prayers and life with God. An incredible woman.
