This manual was helpful for some questions, but others it notes that "answers can vary." Although answers can vary it would have been nice if they showed an example of one of the possible answers. I feel like a solution book needs to give at least one possible answer since that's the point of it!

Some wrong solutions, typos, poor formatting, low quality paper

Some solutions were wrong. Several typos in the solutions. The text formatting is a poor choice for mathematical solutions - they should use Latex. The solution methods sometime deviate from what was illustrated in the main textbook. The paper quality is bad. They are really thin sheets which make it easy to rip; handle with care.

Mostly Great

The first issue of "Sheemie's Tale" did an incredible job chronicling Sheemie's involvement in matters of the Dark Tower. This second issue is intended to finish bridging the gap between Sheemie following Roland back to Gilead in Wizard and Glass and then showing up again in the final Dark Tower novel. The artwork again amazes me, and the narration by Sheemie continues to work well. The only detraction here stems from "expanded" material, as usual.

If you're looking for stunning Dark Tower artwork, this isssue has it. Taheen guards in Thunderclap, ancient Great Ones, the rise of the Tower from the Prim, the creation of the Beams and the depiction of their human-like ambassadors to mortals...get the idea? Some of the material here is breathtaking for a Dark Tower junkie. I'm fascinated by all of the drawings, including one of Sheemie transformed into a tentacled monstronsity of the Prim that is horrifying. If every issue had artwork like this...well, come to think of it, in the early days they did. C'mon, Marvel; get this train back on the tracks!

This brings me to my only complaint about this issue. Furth adds in some material where Sheemie escapes the man in black and falls into a river. At the bottom of this river, he sees...the ancient Great Ones from Dark Tower mythology? I'm always happy to see the outlandish illustrations of these creatures, but how does this even make sense? Thankfully, this excursion is used to explain the rise of the Tower and the receding of the Prim, setting up the Crimson King's grudge and the central conflict behind the entire series (again, stunning artwork on those scenes). Finally, Sheemie creates a "psychic spear" to escape the clutches of these beings, and is then visited by the entities representing the Beams. After this inspiring turn of events, Sheemie is simply scooped up out of the river by Marten in the form of a huge bird to be taken back into captivity, awaiting Roland's arrival in Dark Tower 7 to liberate him and the other Breakers.

It's always tough for me to swallow the additional material written into the comics. While I appreciate that it's all written with an attempt to stay in tune with King's novels, it almost always feels like fan fiction. And I'm not interested in fan fiction. All I've wanted from the beginning was a faithful adaptation of Stephen King's books, like Marvel delivered with the excellent series, The Stand. Instead, they've produced an uneven series that sometimes droops into mediocrity. "Sheemie's Tale" has undoubtedly been a highlight, but its flaws tell another story about unmet expectations.

The International Brand Valuation Manual by Gabriela Salinas is a detailed worldwide overview of valuation methodologies. She sees considerable growth but little consistency. Gabriela Salinas has a very uncommon professional profile, with deep understanding of strategic, accounting, financial and marketing issues, that has earned her a reputation as one of the world leading experts in the field of brand valuation.

As Global Brand Manager of Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, she advises internal and external clients on brand valuation and evaluation related issues. She has a broad international experience, having worked in New York, Buenos Aires, Singapore, London and Madrid for clients such as Bank of America, Repsol YPF, Telefónica, Terra Networks, Bausch & Lomb, Johnson & Johnson, Roca, GM and Great Eastern Life and other international companies on projects involving brand evaluation, brand architecture, brand positioning and brand valuation projects.

Early in her career she specialized in corporate valuation, receiving a Master in Corporate Finance and lecturing on “Valuation of Financial Assets”. Later on, she focused on the valuation of intangible assets, developing a sound professional career in the field. As she enjoys the academic work, she led several research projects on the field and is now teaching “Brand Valuation” at the Institute of Intangible Assets in Spain.

She is now a member of the international initiative for the standardization of brand valuation methodologies, ISO/PC 231 International Committee and of the Brand and Valuation Committees of the Institute of Analysis of Intangible Assets.

This is a well researched work on the state of thought in intangible asset valuation, though it is clearly written for the novice in the field. To the extent that I am a business valuation manager concerned with intangible assets, its usefulness is as a reference for my less experienced staff. Punching content with great insights

I discovered this precious condensate of business insights while traveling beside an old businessman and what convinced me to have my copy was that this old man told me how useful was the ideas inside and how linear and intuitive and that after decades of well conducted business he had found very crucial information on how to be effective even today. I was particularly delighted on the copywriting strategies and branding side. As a fresh sales manager I made myself clear that I had to brand myself too, inside and outside my company. easy read and good kick up the backside

Easy to read, practical and methodical. I enjoyed reading the book as it is so easy to read and it gave me a kick up the but with regard to the things overlooked in my business. Everything should and can be always improved and this book reminds us that we should never be complacent. The main point I learnt from the book is not to discount and add value and this point alone opened my mind as to how I can do it and therefore do better. It is basic stuff but very worthwhile.

Tyranny and torture: the hidden tax on the price of freedom

Stephen Rabe has been studying the cold war's impact on the Western Hemisphere for decades, having produced two other fine books of the period and place. In this slim recoup (puns unintended) he has assembled a vast bill of particulars of the very hot real war waged upon the peoples and nations of Latin America from the late 1940s. In effect, what transpired for some forty years was a continent-wide civil war; exacerbated by the rise of the Cuban Revolution, but begun by the US over a decade before Castro ruptured the cemeterial postwar Pax Americana.

And yet Rabe, too, suffers from conventional liberal US blinkers. For the cold World War Three was, in great measure, an extension of World War II. Nowhere was this more evident than in Latin America, where there had been no victory over Fascism; where war criminals fleeing postwar European justice could find no-questions-asked accommodation. In the US' self-proclaimed backyard political and social democrats, liberals, and Marxists still struggled in united front against feudal elites and military mafias. Just as the US turned a blind eye to Nazi collaborators and fascists lingering in postwar Europe it winked at their proteges still in power in the Americas. Those in Washington who felt the US had backed the "wrong" side in 1941 found their vindication here: mocking the democratic triumphalism in Eastern Europe Rabe lauds by way of introduction. Though Rabe is aware of the hypocrisy, he seems not to connect the *why* of its glaring contradiction: the claims of power and empire. Men at home are usually not what they seem when abroad.

Though the facts presented here are not new, their assembling in one volume comes in very handy for a newer generation just discovering this era and place. I am surprised at some of the elisions in his bibliography. Military regimes such as Brazil's could be better explained by incorporating period literature like Mario Moreira Alves' "A Grain of Mustard Seed," or Helena Moreira Alves' analysis of the national security state in her "State and Opposition in Military Brazil." Penny Leroux' survey of Central American repression in the 1970s - "Cry of the People" - is also strangely absent.

Even with my criticisms, Rabe's book is essential reading for a new generation, raised on Reaganite chest-beating, that needs to know the hidden price of that alleged triumph. In truth, their reading Rabe would parallel the citizen of a hypothetically victorious WW II Germany, discovering the holocausts swept under the rug of righteous mendacity.

Great Book

I bought this book for a class on dictatorships in Latin America, and have been very impressed thus far. The author does a phenomenal job of contextualizing US interventions in the region in the pre/post cold war era, and creates a narrative that is wonderfully easy to follow. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in the US role in Latin America, or to those with research interests in Cuba, Guatemala, Argentina etc...

3D Printing & CNC Fabrication with Sketchp

Great book for getting started with Sketchup. The step-by-step projects are a fine reference even after completing the exercises. It is occasionally confusing because it is based on a slightly older version of the program but that just makes the lessons a bit more challenging. I now know I made a good choice with Sketchup as a first 3D design tool.

It is a more like a beginner's SketchUp book with limited introduction to 3d printing and CNC fabrication. I previously purchased 3D Prining with SketchUp by Marcus Ritland and that book has way more information than this one. Also, I downloaded MakerBot In the Classroom from Thingiverse which also covered the same if not more information on 3d printing using different programs instead of SketchUp.

It is a okay book for people with no SketchUp or 3d printing experience and wants to get started.

Seymour B. Sarason examines why past attempts at reforming the nation's educational system have failed, and offers new perspectives on how reform must be approached for any chance of success in the future. He reveals the faulty assumptions on which past reforms have been based. For example, Sarason disputes the traditional belief that schools exist only or primarily for students—and contends that unless schools become places where educational personnel themselves can learn, change, and grow, those personnel cannot create and sustain favorable learning conditions for students. The book offers innovative answers to fundamental questions surrounding the reform of our education systems:

• What should be our goals for students?
• Why are schools often uninteresting places for students?
• Why is there such discrepancy between how students perceive the world of school and how they perceive the world outside it?

Why Education Reform Has Failed

Sarason writes for those who are members of the community of learners and members of the political community whose role and power affect the direction of educational reform. His ideas are not unique, but are distinctive in that there is an emphasis of ideas that have in the past have been kept separate. His belief is that as long as we keep them separate, failure will occur.
Chapter One discusses the inability of past reform efforts to be effective in making changes occur, and why this dilemma condemn to failure current and future attempts. Chapter Two will review the obstacles when those initiating reform encounter when they don't truly understand the dynamics of the educational system. Chapter Three takes an in depth look at the power relationships within the system, and failure to do so will prevent desired changes from occurring. Chapter Four asks the difficult question as to whom should be involved in the decision-making. The educational system and private sector are compared. The Scanlon Plan is also discussed. Chapter Five will delve into the power structure within the educational system as related to the power relationships within the classroom. There are five examples provided in Chapter Six as to why efforts in educational reform have not been successful. Sarason will compare the educational systems with the medical profession, and the relationship to changes in both areas. Implementation, imitation, and replications of reform efforts are rarely successful. This failure will be discussed in Chapter Seven. Chapter Eight seeks to give you further food for thought in answering that age old question, "For whom do schools exist?". The author will take the position that schools equally exist for the development of both staff and students. Chapter Nine attempts to answer a multitude of questions which focus on the overarching goals for students.
The text is written in a manner that is easy to understand, and provides a multitude of topics which would be a starting point for professional discussions. The course I am involved in at UNO (Omaha) challenges doctoral students in educational administration to step out of the box, challenge to question tradition, and ask difficult questions. This book provides for the foundation for those discussions and a point of reference from which to start when we ask ourselves why have reform efforts failed to achieve the goals we have established. (This review has been written in the format established by the author in the preface.)

The Failure of Educational Reform

Seymour Sarason's thoughts on educational reform are shown in both a positive and negative light. He believes that change in educational practices must be radical if they are going to work. He states, "To us, the biggest risk in education is not taking one." He maintains that it is certain disaster to continue fine tuning an already broken system. As an educator, I find that Sarason establishes grounds for his concerns even though his critism is gloomy at best. He continues to go back to the bottom line and question whether schools are really doing what is best for children. On a positive note, Sarason raises valid points that challenge educators to look at their own practices and beliefs in a way that will make learning and student achievement foremost in every classroom. It would be difficult to read his book and not feel the need for change. How radical the change needs to be is uncertain, unless one agrees with Sarason.

About the Author
John Stuart Mill (1806-73) was educated by his father and through his influence obtained a clerkship at India House. He formed the Utilitarian Society which met to read and discuss essays, and in 1825 he edited Bentham’s Treatise upon Evidence. In 1826 he suffered an acute mental crisis and found that poetry helped him recover the will to live, particularly the work of Wordsworth. Having reconsidered his aims and those of the Benthamite school, he met Harriet Taylor and she inspired a great deal of his philosophy. They married in 1851. Utilitarianism was published in 1861 but before that Mill published his System of Logic (1843), Principles of Political Economy (1848) and On Liberty (1839). His other works include his classic Autobiography (1873). Mill retired in 1858 and became the independent MP for Westminster from 1865 to 1868. He spent the rest of his life in France and died in Avignon.
