the ninja

This is a great book to read for anyone beginning their exploration of ninjitsu. Its a good historical guide and is easy to read with lots of pictures, and alot of good fictional scenerios. Once you have a basic understanding though you will want to read more books by Hatsumi and other of Stephen Hayes works to get a more in depth picture of the ancient art. Great for anyone interested in learning more about the life of the ninja or beggining the art training.

The close-knit group encounters everyday realities such as boring chores, missing library books, and trips to the Rivington Street market, as well as those details which bring the early 1900's to life--scarlet fever, peddlers, and bathing at Coney Island. Woven into the story are the traditions and holidays of the Jewish religion. The girls celebrate the Sabbath with Hebrew prayers, and dress up for Purim so they can deliver baskets to friends and relatives. Suzanne Toren delivers flawless narration, using different accents to distinguish between characters of various cultures and backgrounds. Her intonations and pacing ably reflect the actions and emotions of the characters and fully convey the warmth and humor of the story. All-of-a-Kind Family a timeless treasure

This was a favorite from my childhood and I wanted to collect them for my grandchildren to enjoy too. I reread this book and it still holds the delights I enjoyed as a child. Wonderful! I will gladly without reservations collect them all and look forward to reading them to the children in the days to come.

Interesting and entertaining chapter book.

This is a great story about a family of 5 girls (and later, a little boy), and their adventures at home, in school, and in life. They are firmly but lovingly raised by their mom and dad, who teach them such things as patience, discipline, and personal responsibility.

A Timeless Classic

I read this series of books in 1973. As an African-American growing up in a small predominatly Jewish town in New Jersey it helped me learn more about my Jewish friends. I remember celebrating Purim with them and sharing Sabbath meals at their homes. Because of these books I knew how to behave and the meanings behind their Holy days and customs. I worked for many years at a Jewish-owned company and my co-workers were always impressed how well versed I was about their holidays and customs. I owe that to my Jewish childhood friends but also to Sidney Taylor's books. And the foods were so good to this day I still enjoy traditional Jewish dishes, especially the desserts. I have two daughters ages 10 and 5 and they too enjoyed me reading this book to them. I hope they learned as did I the importance of learning about our fellows human beings...for we all believe in the same God. And that girls will be girls no matter what their religion, race, or time period.

I only wish all five books were available on Kindle.

A great book for those thinking about starting a business, but falls short on key details

While I appreciate the "for Dummies" series -- I own several on various topics -- I often feel like the series really is for beginners (I won't use the word "dummies"). I bought this book since I am in the process of starting up a small business. And while there are some important points and tips made, and the writing is very accessible, I found the book lacking in some really crucial details of small business ownership. For example, if you want detailed advice on taxes, payroll, and accounting, I would recommend other books. If you really just want to get an idea of what it takes to get a business up and going, a quick manual of sorts, than this book is what you need.

My wife recently started a small business designing/printing greeting cards and a few other novelty items. As I have no desire to be her resident-sounding-board, I ordered this and one other book on current tax laws. Between the two she should be able to, keep it on the road, so to speak. I read a copy of this book in 93 and remember it being very easy to follow. I'm sure this one will be as well. If not, I'll let you know as she will most certainly let me know.

love good brain science, and the techniques work in sales. Don't expect the work to be done for you, read it, put it down, think about , use it, go back and re-read it, rinse and repeat. Let this one sink in, one day it will all make sense, and then watch out!

At first glance this book may appear to be another take on Selling Styles Theory . However take another look as it is much more than that. In one volume written specifically for sales teams you find a concise description and application of today's relevant research on the brain and how to be brain friendly in your approach. . It would not take much to apply this material to marketing as well. I read this in a rapid time as it seemed to be replaying what we have been finding in the marketplace for the last few years. Some of what he says seems self evident and some seems common sense and some so new you will read the sections twice. I do not see how any sales person today could ignore this book, unless he/she wishes to be an also ran in the market. Buy it, read it, apply it and do it again. Great for a cross country flight and my compliments to the easy reading brain friendly style!

Pamela Druckerman is a former staff reporter for The Wall Street Journal, where she covered foreign affairs. Buy one for yourself and one for a friend or relative.

Why should you buy this book when technically, the author isn't presenting anything new that wasn't already mentioned in "Bringing Up Bebe"? Well, because your in-laws probably aren't going to bother reading B.U.B. This crystallizes the philosophy of the first book, and can easily be read in an hour or two. You can highlight the most important of the 100 keys so that it becomes a very handy reference guide to help keep you grounded in the midst of the daily grind. The accessibility of it is definitely worth the price.

Do I agree with 100% of what the author says? Nope, but that's okay. I'm suspicious of anyone who says they unerringly subscribe to an author's views, anyway. I won't get into what I disagree with, because really, I might diverge from the author on some particulars, but what's important here is that the author eloquently makes the case for traditionalist parenting. Where else can we find this kind of treatise in a culture that is supersaturated with attachment parenting?

Grant a lot of freedom within a firm set of boundaries. Raise a child who always asks permission of parents who try to say yes as often as they can. Create routines that offer a comforting rhythm for the child but are not slavishly adhered to if circumstances change. A child can learn to sleep through the night and develop a taste for a variety of foods. Treat the child as a member of the family, not the center of the family. Give the child real responsibilities that contribute to the family so that he feels useful. Teach your child self-control by asking them to wait and not immediately rescuing them from their frustration. Respect a child's autonomy and independent play time. These maxims have fallen by the wayside in American homes for the past thirty years, but thanks to this book, I have a resource that offers a glimpse into the calm home of loving, assertive parents who say, "C'est moi qui décide," or in English, "It is me who decides."

I read and loved Druckerman's Bringing Up Bebe and was excitedly awaiting the arrival of Bebe Day by Day.

After reading it, here's what I thought: the book is pretty much a shortened version of the prequel. Great for when you need a quick reminder or reference, which is exactly what the author meant for it to be.

If you are hoping this book contains more new ideas/ info/ tidbits of the French ways of parenting not included in Bringing Up Bebe, you'll be disappointed.

All in all, still a great, quick read. I'm keeping mine.

surprisingly I learned quite a bit from this book!! it is very simplified which is perfect for me since I am a working mom with tons of extra activities out side of work, with VERY little time to read. but all in all it taught me some very fundamental things that I soon started to incorporate into my parenting and am very grateful to learn. VERY GOOD INFO.

Core required book for animators.

If you are an animator and you don't own this....*sigh* Nevermind.
If you want to be an animator, this is a MUST in your library sitting right next to your copy of the Illusion of Life.

This is CORE reading for aspiring animators and a survival guide for working professionals. For the last 11 years of my career, I have referred to this guide religiously.

A Must-Have. No. Really. I Mean It.

I'm not going to write an in-depth review listing pros and cons. All I will say is if you're an animation student, buy it.
This book goes over the basic tenets of animation, and several things your instructors will drill into your head. My 3d animation teacher tells us three things when we start our projects, and that is "Reference, reference, reference."
This book is worth its weight in gold if you are an animation student. Buy it. You will not regret it.
